TOPIC: Can't access some files from old hard drive

Can't access some files from old hard drive 4 years, 2 months ago #18

I recently installed my hard drive from my old computer (XP pro) as a slave drive in a different cpu (Win2K). I can access some of the files on the slave drive without a problem. The media files on the slave drive were password protected on the XP CPU. When i try to access these files on the Win2K CPU an error message pops up. I am not at computer at the moment so i can't give you the exact message. I tried changing the sharing settings in properties menu. That didn't work. Any suggestions?

Using the win2k Recovery Console, you should be able to access and copy these files to a new hard drive. Start your computer with the Windows 2000 Setup floppy disks, or with the Windows CD-ROM. If you dont have either, you may dowload a copy here [url:3byxiuh5]www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm[/url]. At the "Welcome to Setup" screen, press F10, or press R to repair, and then press C (Windows 2000 only) to start the Windows Recovery Console. Select the appropriate number for the Windows installation that you want to repair, and then type the administrator password. If you dont know the password, just press ENTER. You should be able to copy your files from here.
