I have a DVR setup for remote access and I can connect to it remotely over the internet via my DSL and router and it works great. I would also like to connect to my home PC from time to time using windows Remote Desktop Connection. Is this possible? When I try to remote in now using RDC i get an error. I have no problem connecting to the DVR remotely.

You probably need to configure your router to forward incoming requests for the port that windows Remote Desktop Connection uses to your PC. You should be able to do it the same way you set up port forwarding for your DVR. What type of router are you using?

I have a Linksys WRT54GS router with my desktop PC and DVR connected by cable and a laptop connected via wireless. I don't quite remember exactly how I set it up for the DVR but I think I can figure it out.

The default IP for the Linksys WRT54GS router is 192.168.1.1. Just enter this IP into your browser (internet explorer) address bar from your connected PC and it should take you to the router login page. If you never changed the default username and password, just leave username blank and enter 'admin' in the password box. Select 'Applications and Gaming' at the top of the Setup screen, then select 'Port Range Forward' from the menu. You should now see the port forwarding screen where you setup your DVR. Port 3389 is the default port used by Windows Remote Desktop Connection. Enter 3389 in the 'Start' and 'End' boxes and your PC ip address in the 'IP Address' box. That should do it. Be sure and assign static IP addresses for your PC and DVR while you are in teh setup menu, to avoid possible problems.

Thanks so much, its done. I will test it from work tomorrow. I didnt set a static ip for my PC or DVR though. I set them both up with the IP they were assigned by the router. What kind of problems are possible?
