I am upgrading the telephone and data network cabling in my house and am about to buy a Leviton can:
Structured Media Center, Series 280
Is it worth the extra money to get the hinged door rather than the screw on cover.

It really depends on how often you plan to open the can for service or to make changes. If you plan to get into the can frequently I would definitely recommend the hinged door. It is a bit time consuming to unscrew all 4 screws and take of the cover. I find that the cans I service with screw on covers are usually dustier inside, probably because people leave the cover off for longer periods due to inconvinience of replacing/removing screws. I would recommend getting the hinged door.
